WHAT IS A PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE?

A Portrait of a Graduate–also known as Portrait of a Learner or Graduate Profile–is a powerful tool that outlines a shared vision between states, districts, and communities for what skills and knowledge students need to learn as they prepare for life after graduation. The Portrait of a Graduate also shows that a student's abilities to adapt, collaborate, communicate, think critically, show empathy, and take personal responsibility are just as important as traditional academic success.

While each school or district may update their competencies, skills, and definitions over time, a Portrait of a Graduate sets clear goals for educators and students. It focuses on improving curriculum and teaching practices while also serving as a guide to measure progress and identify areas where students may need more support.

BUILDING FUTURE READINESS FOR STUDENTS

It is expected that today’s students will land future careers in which they will use technology that has yet to be invented and solve a variety of problems that are yet to be solved. The World Economic Forum has validated this claim, estimating that nearly 70% of jobs students will have after graduating don’t exist yet.

Through teaching future-ready skills like social awareness, problem-solving, and responsible decision making, Wayfinder has supported thousands of students to learn the skills they need to thrive.

Our team has supported many districts in successfully implementing their Portrait of a Graduate. Get the interactive workbook below to improve your Portrait of a Graduate implementation plan.
