AI in Education Preparing Students for an AI World with Future-Ready Skills

Elevating Our Uniquely Human Skills for Success in an AI World

As generative AI creates new complications, questions, and opportunities across society, education practices will also have to evolve. Today’s students are growing up in a world where artificial intelligence can instantly write essays, solve math problems, and summarize books.

But while AI can automate tasks, it can't understand context, which leads to hallucinationsmisleading results that take time to fact-check. Simply put, AI cannot replace a student’s drive to grow, learn, and be creative.

Comprehensive tools like Wayfinder make it possible to collaborate with new technologies like AI, while deepening students' human skills like Agency, Empathy, Self-Awareness, and Purpose.

The Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge AI in education
AI Leadership + The Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge

On April 23, 2025, the White House signed an executive order, Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education for American Youth, to advance the use of AI in K-12 schools. The main goals from the executive order include:

  • Launching a task force on AI in education, bringing together leaders from various federal agencies.
  • Introducing the Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge to engage students and educators in innovative uses of AI.
  • Advancing AI-focused Registered Apprenticeship programs to build a skilled workforce.
According to the Executive Order, the Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge aims to "encourage and highlight student and educator achievements in AI, promote wide geographic adoption of technological advancement, and foster collaboration between government, academia, philanthropy, and industry to address national challenges with AI solutions."

School districts and state education agencies are expecting additional information on grants and professional development opportunities related to this Executive Order, with federal guidance expected to influence how these programs develop over time.
